Coca-Cola Cake

This weekend I decided to make a cake for the hubby and me. I found a recipe for Coca-Cola cake in my United Cakes of America cookbook. My mother-in-law gave me the cookbook last summer, and I really like it. It has cake recipes that are unique for every state and historical information to go along with them--perfect for me!

The Coca-Cola cake was a recipe for Georgia. The cake batter had Coca-Cola and marshmallows!

I iced the cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and added dark chocolate shavings to the top and placed marshmallows around the bottom. A great treat for a relaxing weekend!

Jackson's Birthday Cake

My next cake adventure was a birthday cake for my brother-in-law, Jackson. For Jackson's 18th Birthday he went on a boy's trip to the Casino with Roy, Chris, and his friend Ben. To celebrate their trip I decided to make Jackson a poker chip cake.

I used a recipe I found online for an Oreo cake. The recipe used a devil's food cake mix for the base cake and a cream cheese, Cool Whip, crushed Oreo, and sugar mixture for the filling. This was topped with a melted chocolate mixture.

I iced the cake with cream cheese frosting and decorated it using poker chips I made out of Oreos covered in fondant. It looked awesome and tasted great! Happy Birthday Jackson!

Valentine's Day Fondant Experiment

Lately, I have watched a lot of the show Cake Boss. REALLY--I have watched A LOT of Cake Boss (the entire four seasons on Netflix in two weeks). When I ran out of new episodes I decided to entertain myself by making my own cakes, and I found out that I really enjoy making and decorating cakes.

I conducted my first cake experiment on Valentine's Day. I decided to go buy some fondant and just see what I could come up with (the Cake Boss is always using fondant).

For the cake I just prepared a Valentine's Day Funfetti cake in a heart shaped pan. I iced the cake in buttercream icing, and I covered it in fondant. Then I just experimented with icing and this is what I came up with. For my first fondant cake it came out pretty well! I sure had fun decorating it.
