Graduation Camouflage Cake

On Friday my brother-in-law Jackson graduated high school! We are so proud of him. For his graduation party I made a camo cake featuring his graduation present--a Toyota Tundra! The inside of this cake was camo too, but I forgot to get a picture of it. I used chocolate cake batter and white cake batter and died part of the white cake batter green. The cake was filled with chocolate icing and a peanut butter filling. It tasted sorta like a Reese's peanut butter cup.

The outside was iced with buttercream icing. I used a star-tip for the camouflage pattern. I used piping gel for the truck, graduation hat, and writing.

Congratulations Jackson! I couldn't ask for a better brother-in-law!

Roy's Birthday Cake

Today was my hubby's birthday! He requested Oreo cake. I used the same recipe as the cake I made for Jackson's birthday. Still just as yummy!

The cake was a Cardinals cake, because I got Roy a Cardinals shirt for his birthday. I frosted the cake with cream cheese icing, used piping gel for the logo and writing, and buttercream for a star border.

We celebrated with Natalie and Chris and a steak dinner. Happy Birthday Roy!

Fresh Strawberry Cake

I went to high school prom for the fourth time last night--this time as a teacher! I am a junior class sponsor so I spent all day decorating and setting up, and my wonderful hubby helped out too. He spent all afternoon hanging snowflakes from the ceiling--what an amazing guy! I am so lucky!

The prom was so fun and the kids had a blast. :) We took home some left over strawberries so I decided to make a strawberry cake to thank my husband for all his help. The strawberry jello and fresh strawberries made the batter so beautiful!

I frosted the cake with homemade cream cheese icing with crushed strawberries and sliced some strawberries on top.

Lemon Cake

In honor of the spring weather we have had this week, I decided to make a bright, cheerful cake. I found a recipe for a tender lemon cake on Martha Stewart's website. My favorite part of making the batter was zesting the lemon!

I iced the cake with lemon and buttercream icing and attempted to create a ruffle effect. This cake tasted delicious--thanks Martha Stewart!

Coca-Cola Cake

This weekend I decided to make a cake for the hubby and me. I found a recipe for Coca-Cola cake in my United Cakes of America cookbook. My mother-in-law gave me the cookbook last summer, and I really like it. It has cake recipes that are unique for every state and historical information to go along with them--perfect for me!

The Coca-Cola cake was a recipe for Georgia. The cake batter had Coca-Cola and marshmallows!

I iced the cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and added dark chocolate shavings to the top and placed marshmallows around the bottom. A great treat for a relaxing weekend!

Jackson's Birthday Cake

My next cake adventure was a birthday cake for my brother-in-law, Jackson. For Jackson's 18th Birthday he went on a boy's trip to the Casino with Roy, Chris, and his friend Ben. To celebrate their trip I decided to make Jackson a poker chip cake.

I used a recipe I found online for an Oreo cake. The recipe used a devil's food cake mix for the base cake and a cream cheese, Cool Whip, crushed Oreo, and sugar mixture for the filling. This was topped with a melted chocolate mixture.

I iced the cake with cream cheese frosting and decorated it using poker chips I made out of Oreos covered in fondant. It looked awesome and tasted great! Happy Birthday Jackson!

Valentine's Day Fondant Experiment

Lately, I have watched a lot of the show Cake Boss. REALLY--I have watched A LOT of Cake Boss (the entire four seasons on Netflix in two weeks). When I ran out of new episodes I decided to entertain myself by making my own cakes, and I found out that I really enjoy making and decorating cakes.

I conducted my first cake experiment on Valentine's Day. I decided to go buy some fondant and just see what I could come up with (the Cake Boss is always using fondant).

For the cake I just prepared a Valentine's Day Funfetti cake in a heart shaped pan. I iced the cake in buttercream icing, and I covered it in fondant. Then I just experimented with icing and this is what I came up with. For my first fondant cake it came out pretty well! I sure had fun decorating it.
